The Magician

As the Fool takes the first step of the journey, he meets The Magician. As the first official step in the Major Arcana, The Magician is a card of power. It tells us that we are one with the universe. It teaches us that we have the power to manifest anything we desire with the right energy and actions.

We must always remember that what appears to be an illusion may actually be reality, just as what appears to be real could be only an illusion. A Magician is only as good as the tools and the resources he has. It is with a deep understanding of how to use our tools and intuition that we will learn how to decipher the two.

As the Fool becomes the Magician, he begins to understand that he can control his own life. He can manipulate people and things as long as he does it the right way…

But he must be careful because manipulation can be a dangerous tool.

Light

“The time to manifest your desires is now”

(Skills, Natural Talent, Power of Manifestation)

When pulled upright, the Magician tells us it is time for actions. This is the card of the inventor, traveler, and the entrepreneur. You will have the drive to move your plans forward, you just need to communicate and express your ideas and vision.

HOME- A house sale could have just been completed or maybe you are deciding to remodel. This could be a sociable time with many house guests.

RELATIONSHIP- If you're looking for love, this card tells you it’s coming. If you are already in love, this card shows furthered commitment. Pulling the Magician in a love reading shows strong communication and a deep understanding and respect for each other.

CAREER- Expect a new beginning. Either changing jobs or taking on new projects within your current role. This can also indicate the potential of leadership.

Your guides are leading you. Trust them and trust yourself.

Shadow

“We can be the master of our own illusions”

(Unused Potential, Questionable intentions, selfishness, or unfocused energy)

If you pull the card in reverse, or upside, the meaning shifts to represent the shadow side. We all have a light and shadow side and it’s normal to experience both in life. Our goal is to learn to notice what our shadows our telling us.

The Magician in reverse becomes the trickster. This card can tell you that you are being misled by a charming manipulator. You could even be your own manipulator.

Remember that what you see is not always what you get. You might not be fully prepared yet, but new information will come soon. Until then, be honest with yourself. Do you already have the answers you seek?

Astrology

The Magician is associated with Mercury. Mercury rules communication, transportation, technology and information sharing. The tools and resources we primarily have today revolve around technology. Cell phones, internet, social media, etc. This is such a mirror to the Magician to me in the sense that technology can be such a useful tool, until it’s abused or used for the wrong reasons.

Element

Like the Fool, the Magician embodies air, although the tools he carries represent all of the Elements. It is said that to possess the knowledge of all four elements is to possess the knowledge of the universe. The Magician may not have been given a connection to all the elements, but he found the tools and resources he needed to access them.

Chakra

The Magician is associated with the Palm Chakra for manifestation. The Palm Chakras are associated with giving and receiving energy. When your palm chakra is balanced, you’ll freely express yourself, share creativity, and be able to reach out and take what you want from the world. When out of balance there is a block. You generally will experience a lack of creativity and not be able to express yourself. When the Palm Chakra is balanced, there is a smooth energy flow.

Symbolism

The Magician stands in front of a table of tools. These are the resources he uses to manifest his desires. His tools include the four suit symbols (which we learn about later in this series) and each suit represents one of the four elements. This again is to symbolize his connection to all of the elements and his ability to use them in his favor.

He stands with one hand facing up and the other down. This is meant to symbolize his connection between worlds. He is the conduit of energy between the earth and the heavens.

In the hand facing up, he holds a wand but if you look closely, you notice it is double ended. This is a reference to the concept “As Above, So Below” which is a term suggesting that Heaven and Earth are mirrors.

He also has an infinity symbol above his head to symbol balance, activity, and renewal.

The Magician reminds us that what looks like magic in the end was often started by someone brave enough to look foolish in the beginning.

What would your magic look like if you were brave enough to be a fool?

Thanks for learning Tarot with me.
